Feast on tapas in the bars: Spanish tapas are little snacks with wine and beer. Of course also to alcohol-free soft drinks. 😉 There are a lot of different tapas. Depending on the region, other foods are preferred. They are mostly beautiful, colourful.

But there are always olives and vegetables, prepared in the style of Italian starters. In addition Lomo (short roasted pork, meatballs, Serrano and Iberico ham, Chorizo sausages, Manchego cheese and regional cheese varieties, shrimps, sardines, anchovies, boquerones, squid, tortilla, paella rations, Ensaladilla Rusa (Russian salad – very tasty, but mostly with a lot of mayo) and fruits, preferably melon matching the Serrano.

Tapa History & Recipes

I have found a blog article that describes very nicely 3 theories about the formation of tapas. Most conclusive seems to be that the wine was covered with bread (tapa) to keep away insects. Then ham and cheese were added and the tapas were born. There you will also find 20 sophisticated recipes for a wonderful tapa evening at home. I tried a few. They work well. From Pimientos de Padrón (fried pepper with sea salt) to hot Albóndigas (Spanish meatballs) almost everything is represented, worth reading. Of course, the famous garlic Mayo Aioli is not missing either. Here you can find 9 creamy aioli recipes. Enjoy your meal.
